The value of research grant can be reflected on the institution scientific position and researcher profile. The rich the researcher profile, the better the institution scientific position. However, young researchers often refrain from applying for research grant support fearing rejection. Nevertheless, appropriate preparation and following instructions are key for successful grant application. Our current dental mindmap illustrates some helpful and valuable tips.

Prosthodontic restoration accounts for about two thirds of most dentists’ practice. This includes the delivery of crowns, fixed partial dentures (FPDs), and removable dentures in many cases. The ultimate goal of any prosthodontic treatment is to provide the patient with a quality experience and achieve overall satisfaction with the treatment. Complications, injuries, patient dissatisfaction, or failure can occur. If they develop as a result of negligence or violation of standards of care, they are considered malpractice and can incur ethical and medicolegal consequences.

Malpractice in prosthodontics can occur at any of the three phases that constitute prosthodontic treatment. These are the pre-intervention phase, the intervention phase, and the post-intervention phase.

it’s essential to ensure that proper standards are being maintained, guidelines are being followed, and complications are minimized.

Dental public health is a discipline of dentistry that provides leadership and expertise in population-based dentistry, oral health surveillance, policy development, community-based disease prevention and health promotion. Prevention should be at the heart of any effective healthcare strategy. Dental/ oral disease/ conditions are largely preventable yet may influence the course of systemic diseases/ conditions. Studies had shown that dental/ oral health is essential for overall health. In reference to 2030 vision for healthcare system reform, prevention is at the heart of the reform plan for healthcare system reform. Dental health should receive equal attention like general public health in order to achieve overall health promotion

Clinical trials are research studies that explore the efficacy of medical strategy, treatment modality, device, or intervention protocol for human. These studies also evaluate which approach is appropriate for certain illnesses or group of population. Clinical trial is the gold standard in epidemiological research that produce the best data available for healthcare decision making. Clinical trials are one of the final stages of a long and intensive research process. The process begins at the lab and ends by the bed-side where clinical trials take place. Clinical trials are performed in sequential manner with strict adherence to ethical principles that protect human subject participating in research projects. The ultimate goals for a clinical trials is to improve the overall health outcomes and population well-being and advancing the wheel of knowledge forward.

Caries is a biofilm (plaque)-induced acid demineralization of enamel or dentin, mediated by saliva. The disease of early childhood caries (ECC) is the presence of 1 or more decayed (non-cavitated or cavitated lesions), missing (due to caries), or filled tooth surfaces in any primary tooth in a child 71 months of age or younger. In children younger than 3 years of age, any sign of smooth-surface caries is indicative of severe early childhood caries (S-ECC). From ages 3 through 5, 1 or more cavitated, missing (due to caries), or filled smooth surfaces in primary maxillary anterior teeth or a decayed, missing, or filled score of ≥4 (age 3), ≥5 (age 4), or ≥6 (age 5) surfaces constitutes S-ECC.*

(ECC) is a serious public health problem in both developing and industrialized countries. ECC can begin early in life, progresses rapidly in those who are at high risk, and often goes untreated. Its consequences can affect the immediate and long-term quality of life of the child’s family and can have significant social and economic consequences beyond the immediate family as well. ECC can be a particularly virulent form of caries, beginning soon after dental eruption, developing on smooth surfaces, progressing rapidly, and having a lasting detrimental impact on the dentition. Children experiencing caries as infants or toddlers have a much greater probability of subsequent caries in both the primary and permanent dentitions.**

Dental Caries is a disease in which minerals of the tooth are dissolved into surrounding bacterial plaques and to saliva. A caries process going on for some time may result in a Caries Lesion. It is sometimes called White Spot Lesions, Initial Caries or Incipient Caries. If the process is not halted, the enamel surface may break, resulting in a Cavity.

Today, we are posting a mindmap about Dental Caries which includes the following points:

Several classification schemes have been used to help diagnose gingival recession:

Sullivan & Atkins 1968

Mlinek et al. 1973

Miller 1985

Smith 1997

Mahajan 2010

Miller’s classification for gingival recession is the most commonly used classification.

It divides gingival recession defects into four categories

evaluate both soft and hard tissues loss.

It allows determining the level of root coverage achievable with a free gingival graft.

Miller’s classification is a diagnostic and prognostic tool

Today, we present you with a mindmap illustrating the four categories of the gingival recessions according to Miller’s Classification.

Sherpey’s fibers are the terminal ends of principal fibers of the periodontal ligament that insert into the cementum and the periosteum of the alveolar bone. It acts as buffer medium against stress. Sharpey’s fibres in the primary acellular cementum are mineralized fully; those in cellular cementum and bone are mineralized only partially at their periphery.
