Always see patients with acute periodontal problems immediately. Do not postpone until the next day or prescribe antibiotics over the phone.

Treat the patient, not what the insurance company will cover. If the patient is not willing to comply with your periodontal treatment plan, then note it clearly in the chart and have the patient sign beside the note. The patient will know that you are serious about the problem.
